dance-theatre
It all began with the arts – martial arts and performing arts. I started with karate.. Followed it with piano, singing, western ballet, choreographed dance shows, Odissi, contemporary… Then came my professional theatre education, coupled with stage plays. Eventually I found myself at the crossroads of Dance and Theatre. This was an interesting point in my life, facing two of the most significant learnings of my career. I contemplated a marriage of the two. Thus was born my interest in dance-theatre.
My first dance-theatre creation was a solo with ‘Kaal – Dance with Time’, a themed modular production with Drutam Dance Ideas Lab, in Mumbai, where I conceptualised, directed and performed a soliloquy titled, ‘What is Fully Mature Is Very Close to Rotting’.
My second production titled, ‘Hark’, was staged on 4th November in Mumbai at NCPA Experimental under the auspices of Kaishiki Nritybhasha. Hark is an artistic rendition featuring 4 happily married women in a family whom fate, in the span of a year, turns into 4 grieving widows. Did the women lose just their husbands,? Or did they lose something more? ‘Hark’ is an attempt to raise sensitivity and give the tragic stifled silence a voice that we can all attentively listen to.
I look forward to hearing from you as I continue my explorations in dance-theatre.
